Feb 01, 2019  r/Gameboy: A subreddit dedicated to discussion of the Nintendo Game Boy. Discussion of all Game Boy models, handheld swaps, mods, games, and Press J to jump to the feed. DMG-01 Friday, February 7, 2014. Retail Display/External Game Boy Displays I found this really fascinating. In the video he says 'we've added some really cool special electronics so that you can watch your game boy being played on a tv screen'. I would love to know what electronics! Would it be difficult for someone today to build a gameboy to.

This week the star of the show is the original Gameboy from Nintendo! Over the Christmas holidays last year I was over at my parents’ house for a night and was reminiscing about all the great Gameboy games I used to own. I decided to take a midnight dive into my parents garage to see if I could find any of the classic video games for the Game Boy. In a pitch black garage and armed with my phone torch I scrambled through the cobwebs and dust looking for those little Game Boy carts. After looking through the whole garage, there was just one box left. Could this contain the retro game gems? After dusting off the lid and breaking the old stale tape holding it together. I opened the box. And just like a scene from Indiana Jones, there was my retro video games treasure. Along with a few little extras too!

I can’t remember what I did with all the original Gameboy game card board boxes. But the games all came in a little plastic case for protection. So they were all still in mint condition! I remember Mortal Kombat 2 used to be one of my all-time favourite Game Boy games. But I used to always find it really difficult. I plugged in the cartridge and switched on the Gameboy. Hearing those retro game tunes bleep out of the Gameboy speaker really took me back! Within the thirty minutes I had completed it! Maybe I’m better now or maybe my thumbs can reach the buttons easier. Either way it was an absolute blast!

Nintendo Game Boy

The 8 bit Game Boy DMG 01 was the first Gameboy. Created by Satoru Okada and developed by Nintendo. North America saw a Game Boy release date was of 1989 with Europe following in 1990. Nintendo combined features from the Nintendo Entertainment System, NES and the Game & Watch series to build the original Game Boy.

The Game Boy was first shipped with a copy of Tetris. This was a masterstroke decision by Nintendo and led to the Game Boy seeing massive sales followed by a run of great Game Boy games.

The main rivals to the Gameboy at the time were the Sega Game Gear, Atari Lynx and the NEC TurboExpress. The Gameboy proved to be massively successful. Being followed up by a series of hugely successful handheld consoles that carried the Gameboy name for years to come. Including the Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Micro to name a few.

Buying a Game Boy

I still remember dreaming about owning a Game Boy when I was 8 years old. Not metaphorically, but literally. I remember waking up from a dream of buying a Gameboy so excited! Only to realise the cold reality of not owning one. It was when I was on holiday visiting my grandparents in Greece that I finally became the proud owner of my first Game Boy!

I still remember that original Gameboy unboxing like it was yesterday. The cool futuristic design on the front of the box. The cardboard that held the Gameboy, Tetris, Link cable and AA batteries. It was a moment of glory!

Unfortunately my original Gameboy box is somewhere in storage in Greece. I dread to think what condition it’s in right now! So in my retro gaming adventures I’ve decided to try and pick up a complete in box original Nintendo Game Boy. I managed to find a great deal on an original Gameboy complete in box. In this video I’ll do the Gameboy unboxing and go over some of the great finds from my parents garage!

It might not be the same type of box I originally got, but I’m still psyched about it. The original Gameboy box will have to wait for another day.

Retro Gaming

There are so many things I love about retro game collecting. One of them being the chance to take a trip down memory lane with a classic console and play some classic video games. I think current gen video games have come to a point now where they are so realistic that going back and to play retro games really has a unique charm. Whether they bring back memories from your childhood or you get to discover a hidden gem that is new to you. Game collecting and retro game collecting in particular is a gold mine of emotions and fun experiences to be re-discovered or discovered anew.

Discovering new retro gaming experiences is where I think retro gaming channels really shine. It’s after watching channels like Gamezof War and Game Pickups With Reggie with their contagious excitement that I get new ideas for retro video games. I hope I can provide the same excitement and ideas for other retro gamers out there!

This video was shot last year and has already appeared on my channel. However due to a mess up on my part I accidentally deleted all my retro gaming videos. So this is the second of 14 retro-retro gaming videos.

Pokémon Go: the gift that keeps on giving.

And even if you're not into the app, you'll be rubbing your hands together in glee over this next piece of Pokénews.

You know that old Game Boy collecting dust in a box somewhere? Dig it out -- it could be worth a lot of money.

There's barely a '90s kid alive who doesn't have some form of Nintendo swag hidden away in his or her attic, and now, thanks to the popularity of Pokémon Go, people are trying to shift them for a lot of money on websites like eBay and Amazon.

Some are flogging their original Game Boys for as much as $700.

Check out this graph from Pricecharting.com. It shows how the pricing of an old Game Boy Color in a used condition has fluctuated since May 2015. That massive spike at the end starts around the same time interest in Pokémon Go began picking up.

Pricecharting.com estimates the price of Game Boy consoles as the following (based on new condition):

Original Game Boy: $549.95

Game Boy Color: $242.50

Game Boy Advance: $69.95

So, what's going on?

Nintendo is laughing because it doesn't even own Pokémon Go.

The game developer is Niantic, and the publisher is The Pokémon Company. So why isn't The Pokémon Company getting a big piece of the financial pie? Because the firm doesn't have shares in the stock market. But Nintendo does, and it owns 30 percent of The Pokémon Company.

But are Nintendo products actually worth this much?

In short, no one knows for sure.

It's true to say Pokémon Go created a vacuum of excitement for Nintendo gear which is creating the illusion that its products are worth more.

So in that sense, there's never been a better time to sell your old Game Boy, Nintendo 64, GameCube or any other Nintendo consoles you have lying around.

Ride the Pokémon Go wave before it crashes because it will -- unless Nintendo comes up with a way to seriously capitalize on the fad.
